Take Responsibility For My Own Actions! Really?
Good Day, my friends! Are you tired of blaming everything on your co-worker, your boss, your spouse, or even blaming your weight on Pattie Labelle’s peach cobbler with the thick crust? Well regardless of whom you’re pointing your finger at this time, it’s time for us to start taking responsibility for own actions and to stop making excuses. Period!
I know, I know. Taking responsibility for your mistakes can be tough. It’s so much easier to just blame someone else or come up with an excuse. But let me ask you this: does blaming someone else or making an excuse really fix the problem? No, it doesn’t. All it does is shift the focus away from you and onto someone else, but the problem remains there.
Here’s a good personal example of this in action. When I was a teenager, my cousin, Dave, had very fast sports cars. I’m talking really fast! Fortunately enough, he would let me…..yes me, a teenager- drive his really fast cars. Over a 3 year period, I accumulated 7 speeding tickets. But guess what? I always blamed either the cars or the cops! Take your choice as long as it wasn’t me getting the blame. Well, this was fine in the beginning until he started making me pay for the ticket fines! So you see, this quickly changed my mind set in how I looked at the responsible party. When I simply blamed the cars or the cops, the situation never changed. When my cousin changed the rules..i.e. I had to pay–I decided to take responsibility for my actions because I started to go broke! This was a quick lesson to learn.
So if you take responsibility for your own actions, you then have the power to fix the problem and learn from your mistakes. Just as I did. You’ll also come across as a mature and reliable person, which never hurts either.
Plus, let’s be real, it’s just plain old annoying when people constantly make excuses or blame others for their mistakes. Don’t be that person. Be the person who takes responsibility and owns up to their actions. So, go ahead and give it a try. Take responsibility for your own actions and watch as people start to give you more respect. Good luck, my friends!
